Quebec may be 3,600 kilometres away but you can get a real taste of francophone culture in the city this weekend.

For the 15th year, the Calgary Maple Festival des Sucres runs March 4-5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Heritage Park, starting with the opening ceremony at 9:15 a.m. Saturday.

The two-day event promises to be bigger and better this year, expanding within the park with family-friendly activities. It features French-Canadian, Metis and First Nations folkloric music and dances, demonstrations, storytelling and exhibits, circus workshops and puppet shows. A Sugar Market will have a variety of maple products for sale and guests can take part in a traditional Sugar Shack meal. Tickets for that are limited and must be pre-purchased.

There are a number of other places to eat, including a brunch in the Celebration Tent from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The highlight of the festival for many might be the opportunity to create maple taffy on the snow or get their photo taken with the festival mascot, Brisebois.

More details and entrance prices are listed on the festival website.
